This photograph was taken in the dark of night in Harper's Ferry WV. How did we manage to light an entire railroad bridge? To make this image, 25 photographers were positioned along the shoreline of the Potomac River and the tracks of this 1893 Railroad bridge in Harper's Ferry WV, armed with handheld flashlights. We opened the shutter for 30 seconds on cue via Walkie Talkies and painted the bridge with individual beams of light. The last photographer's position was nearly a quarter mile walk from the camera with a powerful Metz flash to illuminate the railroad tunnel. The easy part, quite honestly was taking the shot. The challenge was to find 25 volunteers to drive 1.5 hour out into the country and trek around in the dark to simply hold a flashlight for 30 seconds. I'll always consider that one of my greatest photographic achievements.
For this shot, I used a Nikon tripod mountedD800 with a 24-70 f2.8 lens at f20 , ISO 400 for 30 seconds.
